When I first created this website (about 3 months ago), I wanted to get the most up-to-date geospatial news in one place. I first thought about using 10-20 sites for the latest news. As I built the website, I then decided to expand into using multiple blogs because I really like to read some of the blog posts. I really liked the way the website was functioning, pulling the news and blog feeds.
At some point in early April, I decided to add a page that links to available Podcasts. Why? My new(est) job gives me a lot of time to work quietly. I realized that some of the podcasts would be a great way to keep up with the industry and find out about new technologies or uses for old technologies. Therefore, I began creating my list of podcasts. I check them frequently for updates and I highly suggest that you do the same. I firmly believe that my podcast list is the most extensive “geospatially-related” podcast list online. And, I want more! (mwahaha) I have already started adding archived podcasts to the list (at the bottom). I plan on expanding this list to add more and to perform more searches to see if any new, current podcasts can be added.
Do you have podcasts that are no longer published? Let me know and I will be happy to serve them out (somehow). Please send me a message and I’ll see what I can do. If nothing else, I can probably allow people to download or listen from this website.
Over the last 2 days and continuing on for the next few days, I have been updating the look and feel of the website. I like the way it looks much better than the previous look, which was more of a beta version as I built the website. While typing this up, I still have a number of changes to do to the website, but they are relatively small and will happen when I can find some free time.
I still consider this a personal website. It is a low priority when compared to my kids and wife. To put this into perspective, on Saturday, we have swim lessons for my kids, followed by a birthday party for a kid, then a ballet recital for both kids. Plus, we have family visiting from out-of-state. It’s going to be exhausting. Yeah, I doubt there will be any work on the website Saturday. Anyway, my busy schedule is another reason why I wanted to have a one-stop joint to view current industry news…the reason for GeoJoint.
Getting back to my topic, I am hoping to complete the website updates within the next few days. Then, I can hopefully find time for expansion. There are at least 2-3 sections I want to expand upon. You can read about it on the About GeoJoint page.
The whole point of this post was to mention that I have been making some changes to this website and I hope you like them. There are a few more tweaks that I need to do, as well. Take care and enjoy the site.
